Statistics Canada calculates the income threshold that determines if a household is living in poverty. This calculation is a fixed percentage (50%) of the median income of the population at the person level. In effect, this measure indicates the percentage or number of people in the bottom income quartile. The graph below shows the low-income measure (LIM) for both before tax and after tax household incomes in 2010 based on the number of persons in the household.
