Improving Access to Income Supports for People with Disabilities in Surrey, B.C.

In 2024, the SPRC conducted an action project identifying ways to improve access to income supports for people with disabilities which includes pilot training workshops, pilot community pop-up events, and the development of a resource guide. The SPRC is currently looking at ways to advance the recommendations from the final report.

Community Leaders Igniting Change (CLIC)

The Community Leadership Igniting Change (CLIC) is a community leadership development program for those who live or work in Surrey and other South of the Fraser neighbourhoods. The program is a partnership of Simon Fraser University – Surrey campus, Envision Financial, and the SPRC.

Annual Community Forums

Every year, the SPRC hosts an annual community forum open to community members, service providers, government agencies, and decision-makers.

Fireside Youth Leadership Development Pilot Program

The Fireside Youth Leadership Development Pilot Program was a virtual 6-month program for youth ages 18-30 with care experience. Participants completed 5 modules of activities with the objective to empower participants in identifying as independents and community leaders. The report details our insights and recommendations for next steps.


Connecting Community to Surrey Youth Aging Out of Care

Between 2016-2019, we completed a significant amount of work under three broad categories: research, building community, and youth leadership development with the objective to increase community support and improve outcomes for youth transitioning out of government care. This report series details that work, insights, and recommendations for next steps.

Fundementors Pilot Project

Fundementors was a response to increased risk of poverty and social isolation that young people experience once they exit the government care system. We developed an online platform where youth could connect with healthy, unpaid adults to access support, guidance and advice on all things ‘adulting’ and develop informal social networks with peers and mentors. The report details our insights and recommendations for next steps.


2012 Surrey Poverty Reduction Plan: T.H.I.S is How we End Poverty in Surrey

THIS focused on four policy areas – Transportation, Housing, Income and Supports – and included 75 recommendations for action, at all levels of government.
